lpv:translated text	"The Internal Market Information System (IMI) has been in use since 2008 as a free service for Member States. Its aim is to improve the exchange of information within the internal market. The system has proven to be a fast and secure means for cross-border information exchange and administrative cooperation and, at present, over 6 000 authorities in all EU Member States and European Economic Area countries are registered in it. The current proposal aims to improve the conditions of operation of the internal market using an effective and user friendly instrument enabling the practical implementation of administrative cooperation and information exchange. The regulation is based on two parts. One lays down rules for the use of the IMI system for administrative cooperation, and the other lays down the basic rules for data protection. For the IMI system to operate more effectively, it is important to establish a comprehensive legal framework."@en1
