Monitoring the safety of medicines is aimed at determining and evaluating the side effects of medicines, thus stopping unsuitable medicines from entering the market. We need to improve the drug evaluation system in order to protect public health. I welcome the more stringent provisions set out in the directive on transparency obligations incumbent upon pharmaceutical companies and on a longer period of additional drug monitoring in order to ensure that only drugs that are safe and do not damage public health enter the market."@en1
