Given that food security is a topic of major concern among European citizens, we must require the Member States to modernise their identification and traceability measures in accordance with a definite timetable. It will increase consumer confidence if we provide consumers with more information on what they are consuming. However, Amendment 46, added by the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats), the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, which practically does away with voluntary beef labelling, is completely unacceptable and so I cannot vote in favour of this report."@en1
