Electronic identification will help to ensure greater food safety in the EU and strengthen control of the spread of animal diseases. Electronic reading will open up opportunities to not only ensure that beef products are as safe and hygienic as possible and to manage outbreaks of infectious diseases, but also to promote this sector’s competitiveness. I agree that electronic identification should remain a voluntary measure, but the expansion of the market in electronic devices must result in lower prices so that this identification method becomes the norm."@en1
