The objective of this instrument, created in 2012, is to create a common area of protection and solidarity, with a common asylum procedure and a uniform status for those granted international protection. The asylum-related activities of the European Asylum Support Office play a predominant role in harmonising European standards and identifying the failings of the Member States’ asylum systems.
