"Madam President, in 2010, 83.1% of the female workforce worked in the service sector in the European Union, and 78% of all part-time jobs were done by women.
I call on the Commission and Member States to devise strategies and adopt specific measures for combating precarious employment conditions in the service sector, which particularly affect women. Although there are increasing numbers of women using computers and the Internet, the digital divide in terms of skills remains very wide, which hampers women’s opportunities to seek and find skilled jobs. I call on Member States and regions to arrange free IT training courses through projects financed by the European Social Fund, providing women with the opportunity to acquire new technical skills in the fields of communications and information technology, and thereby boosting their chances of finding a decent job in the service sector."@en1
