Humanitarian aid is important and helpful; however this is not a solution in itself. The regime is not the only problem, however. Radical Islamist forces have taken control of the clearly fractured opposition and, sponsored by ultra-conservative groups in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, are obviously steering politics in this direction. It is no coincidence that the opposition only met yesterday with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. I understand the fear among the minorities and also the fear of the 15% Christian population in Syria. For this reason, we must come to the assistance of the Syrian people quickly. I believe that an orderly transition will be impossible without the intensive inclusion of Russia, in particular. Above all, I would warn against trying to find a solution with a policy of tanks and bombs. The chaos in Iraq and Libya should warn against this."@en1
