"Seven per cent of the adult population of the EU, namely around 30 million people, still do not have a bank account in 2012. I voted for this text, in which Parliament calls for the universal right of European citizens to have a basic bank account to be recognised, in order to address this issue. Every individual should effectively be able to open an account and carry out banking transactions, albeit simple ones such as the payment of wages into an account or the withdrawal of money. These transactions have now become an essential part of our daily lives and of the way our economy works."@en1
