lpv:translated text	"There is no pet-protection legislation in the EU. Moreover, the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals has not yet been signed by many Member States. As such, and in view of the large numbers of petitions submitted, particularly in countries of southern and eastern Europe, this resolution calls on the EU and the Member States to ratify the convention. It also calls on the Commission to put forward a legal framework to protect these animals, including rules for identifying and registering animals, stray animal-management strategies, measures to promote responsible ownership, and severe sanctions to be imposed on any Member State which fails to comply with the rules. I voted for this resolution of the European Parliament for these reasons."@en1
