"I voted against adoption of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) for several reasons: first of all, I do not believe it is an effective solution to the fight against counterfeiting because the signatory countries as a whole account for just 5% of global counterfeiting, while it will not cover emerging economic powers like Brazil, Russia, India and China, where there is very considerable counterfeiting; secondly, there is no reference to geographical indications and so the Italian and European quality agri-food sector will not be protected, thus providing no benefit for ‘Made in Italy’. These are the main considerations that led me not to support the ACTA Trade Agreement in plenary."@en1
