"I voted in favour of the resolution on the attractiveness of investing in Europe because the economic, financial and fiscal crisis in the EU has significantly widened the economic and social disparities among Member States and regions, resulting in an uneven distribution of inward and outward investment across the European Union. I support the objectives of the Innovation Union and I call on Member States to set themselves a goal of increasing investment in education, research and innovation, given the medium- and long-term positive effects these areas can have on growth and development. The EU should also promote the Trans-European Networks and worker, student and researcher mobility, and reinforce cooperation and complementary features between EU economies. I called on the Commission and Member States to implement the ‘European eGovernment Action Plan’, enabling them to provide eGovernment services more efficiently and at a lower cost, including to companies, at both local and cross-border level. I think that the EU and Member States should take action particularly to increase utilisation of the Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund as a catalyst for attracting additional funding from the EIB, EBRD, other international financial institutions and the private sector, while encouraging initiatives based on public-private partnerships."@en1
