"Road safety is one of the cornerstones of European transport policy. The in-vehicle eCall system can make an important contribution to reducing the number of victims of road accidents.
The system automatically notifies the emergency services in the event that the vehicle is involved in a serious accident. I strongly support eCall because it cannot only save lives, but also reduce the severity of the injuries of those involved in accidents by providing immediate aid.
Particularly when EU citizens travel to another country, they often do not know exactly where they are and do not always speak the language. Therefore, the automatic eCall signal is especially useful, because the rescue services receive the information about the exact location of the vehicle immediately.
eCall should be interoperable and EU-wide. If every country has its own system which can only communicate with vehicles from that country, then we will not be able to exploit the potential of eCall to the full."@en1
