They play a key role in transport safety within the European Union and ensure that drivers’ social rights are respected. In view of the latest technological innovations, it is vital that we adapt earlier regulations. Ms Ţicău’s report calls for the use of digital tachographs, known as ‘smart tachographs’. They will enable control authorities to directly target fraudulent vehicles and to improve checks. Finally, the report calls for the training of police services to be harmonised.
