"The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), founded in 1957, is a consultative body of the three EU institutions – the Commission, the Council and Parliament – to which it provides its opinions on legislative proposals. According to Rule 124 of the Rules of Procedure, where the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union provides for consultation of the EESC, the President shall, without prior discussion, initiate the consultation procedure and inform Parliament thereof. In view of this, I voted for the request to consult the EESC on creating a European social market."@en1
