"Mr President, the successfully operating Baltic Sea macro-region and the related EU strategy are a source of tangible benefits to the entire Union. This is because of the cooperation taking place between partners at national, regional and local levels, which allows clear priorities to be defined and effectively implemented. This cooperation creates a series of opportunities in the area of cohesion policy, and this, in turn, contributes to the success of action taken in the area of services and on work-related issues. Built in this way, the strategy has often allowed greater complementary funding of investments to be achieved, and this has stimulated macro-regional growth. Similarly, enormous opportunities exist in the countries of the Mediterranean. However, the large geographical size of the area means that in order to make use of these opportunities, all the parties involved need to coordinate their policy. The dynamics of development of such a macro-region could be the ideal driving force for the European economy. My endorsement of the resolution means I support the incorporation of macro-regional strategies into the process of planning the budget. I think that measures not covered by cohesion policy are of particular importance here, such as cooperation with non-EU countries. The experience gained from the Baltic macro-region gives us a formula for the development of similar initiatives."@en1
