"Mr President, I voted for the report on the evolution of EU macro-regional strategies because its aim is to open up a new area for the cohesion policy in Europe with a very clear objective: territorial development. We are aware that macro-regional strategies need to be based on multi-level governance, which therefore involves the local and regional levels right from the pre-legislative stage.
Both the Commission and Council are expected to give further support to the approach taken with the Danube basin, which must be evaluated regularly and receive suitable financial resources. Last but not least, I support the idea that both the Commission and Member States should consider a process of reflection and consultation for the future macro-regional strategies, so that we ensure that they will really produce substantial added value in Europe."@en1
