"EU Member States account for approximately 30% of all arms exports and are amongst the world’s leading arms producers. We must therefore act to improve the transparency and regulation of commercial sales. Parliament has sent a strong signal to the UN Member States currently negotiating the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), by adopting the related resolution by 612 votes. The resolution was supported by a large majority and I welcome that. It insists on the need for the ATT to contain the provision for regular reports to a specialist UN unit on all arms-related sales agreements, in particular, transfers of small arms and light weapons. Parliament also found it necessary to make provisions committing States Parties to adopt the required measures in their national legislation."@en1
