"The arms trade, which is carried out in the utmost opacity, has a direct impact on respect for human rights and development conditions in the least advanced countries. That is why I supported this resolution, because I believe that it is our responsibility as MEPs to encourage, through the Commission, the Member States to take practical measures to regulate this trade. We must have a binding agreement at international level and it should apply to the widest possible range of transfers of, and transactions in, conventional arms. Lastly, I would like this treaty to introduce measures for monitoring the transparent implementation of the rules that it puts into force."@en1
