"During this very serious crisis, the European Union needs to improve the tools which are of most importance for the Union’s function. This is why it is so important to increase spending on cohesion policy in the new budget for 2014-2020. Cohesion policy enables us to maintain the emphasis on partnership and investment in the EU budget. The increased amounts allocated in this budget will be a positive stimulus for the EU economies and a clear signal that the EU has stopped treating the central and western parts of Europe differently. The budget should be financed by Member States’ contributions and the proceeds of a financial transaction tax. I do not agree with the introduction of an EU climate tax or to the proposals for a rise in the price of greenhouse gas emission quotas established for industrial entities. During a crisis, placing an additional burden on industry is like walking a tightrope across a precipice blindfolded."@en1
