In order to achieve these targets, there is a key role to be played by research, development and innovation. Therefore, I think that the European Union and Member States need to step up their efforts in this area to achieve an effective, dynamic level of research activity. Such cooperation will make it possible to achieve better results than those achieved individually by each Member State. Last but not least, continuing the cooperation with third countries on research development and innovation is beneficial as it will allow the European Union to remain a major global player, including as part of partnerships within international forums: the EU-Russia and EU-US dialogue, the Energy Charter, the Energy Community process and relations with other international bodies concerned with energy and climate."@en1
