"Voluntary activities enable individuals and associations to tackle human needs and concerns, whether social, intergenerational or environmental. The figures show that there are 100 million European citizens working in various voluntary activities who are able to contribute 5% of European GDP. Eighty per cent of citizens consider volunteering to be an important element of democratic life and a significant means by which each individual can participate in society. The need to continue to differentiate clearly and unequivocally between the value of volunteering provided free of charge, and profit-making activities, still remains. It will promote the establishment of a European Voluntary Humanitarian Aid Corps, the establishment of a centralised EU portal on volunteering and the European Skills Passport, which I fully support."@en1
