"At its plenary session in Strasbourg today, the European Parliament voted by a large majority in favour of Mr Scurria’s report on cross-border voluntary activities in the EU. 22.6% of young people are currently looking for a job in the European Union. Nevertheless, we know that their main problem is landing their first job, as they are often rejected on the grounds of a lack of experience. However, many get involved with voluntary activities. The technical and human skills that they acquire in their humanitarian, cultural or sports undertakings are all assets on the job market or for getting onto certain university courses. It is from this perspective that the Scurria report calls for a European statute for volunteering, for official recognition of qualifications obtained through volunteering, and for the creation of a skills passport that is valid throughout the EU."@en1
