"Volunteering entails benefits both in terms of personal development and for civil society as a whole. Carrying out cross-border voluntary activities offers European citizens the opportunity to develop new skills needed to improve their employability and to enjoy the experience of cultural and linguistic diversity. I think that Member States need to promote involvement in cross-border voluntary activities, set up a legal framework conducive to volunteering and recognise the rights of volunteers. I believe that it is vital for the competences and skills gained through volunteering to be recognised as non-formal and informal learning and work experience. These are all the reasons why I voted in favour of this resolution."@en1
