According to the Italian authorities’ calculations, the total direct damage caused by the flooding amounts to approximately EUR 722.5 million. I welcome the inclusion of EUR 18 061 682 in the 2012 budget of the EU. I believe that in future, the EU must respond more quickly and effectively by allocating assistance to Member States affected by natural catastrophes, and I therefore agree with the review of the principles on the coordination of the distribution and the allocation of the EU Solidarity Fund."@en1
