However, to make the most of these potentials, first they need to be made secure. The many disputes regarding existing legislation on data privacy and intellectual property rights enforced in the Internet environment should give us much food for thought. I supported Mr Kalfin’s proposal because I believe that the potential offered by the web, in terms of both innovation and growth for European enterprises, must not be lost, especially in a highly competitive context such as currently exists at global level.
