The initiative, entitled ‘A resource efficient Europe’ is one of the seven flagship initiatives in the Europe 2020 strategy, which aims to promote intelligent, sustainable, inclusive growth. In addition, this flagship initiative intends to introduce a policy framework to support the transition towards a resource-efficient, low carbon economy, which will help to: boost economic performances whilst enabling the use of fewer resources; search for and create new opportunities for economic growth; intensify innovation and boost the Union’s competitiveness; ensure secure supplies of essential resources; combat climate change and restrict the environmental impact of resource use."@en1
