"Madam President, it is quite incredible that in 2012, over 60 years after the birth of European integration and 55 years after the principle of equal pay for equal work was set down, after several wars, and after economic crises past and present there still is a 16 per cent pay gap between male and female employees. The Bauer report is excellent. It thoroughly examines problematic issues such as job classification, social dialogue, potential sanctions and, what I am particularly pleased about, the inclusion of collective redress. I am convinced that publicity and increased transparency can serve to significantly reduce the pay gap. What I am thinking about here, Commissioner, is quite simply that statistical analysis of the pay gap should be made part of companies’ annual reports, thus soliciting the assistance of publicity to eliminate that gap. I congratulate the rapporteur and support this report."@en1
