If I concentrate on this issue of equal pay, let me simply say that the point that I made here – and I do not know if people are wilfully trying to misunderstand it – is not that I do not think that equal pay for equal value will improve women’s rights or women’s workplace conditions. Of course I do. I made that point and I have been involved in it all my working life. What I think, though, is that the Commission will not add to that by legislating. It will not help. We need to make sure that our Member States subscribe to it and put it into practice."@en1
