"Mr President, the Committee on Regional Development was pleased to provide an opinion on this report. The committee welcomed the fact that resource efficiency was a flagship initiative for 2020. The Committee on Regional Development also called for greater investment in infrastructure for renewable energy projects and I am pleased to say that the new regulations for cohesion policy do indeed take this into account.
The committee also called for the contribution of the European Structural Funds towards sustainable growth to be reinforced. Again, the new cohesion policies take this into account. We also called for increased coordination between various EU funds to achieve resource efficiency and again, our proposal is that Structural Funds should be harmonised in the future.
The committee also called for greater coordination between local authorities and regions because, at the end of the day, it is often local authorities and regions that have to deliver these projects.
So in general, and to sum up, the Committee on Regional Development is pleased with this report."@en1
