As the Treaty of Lisbon has strengthened Parliament’s political supervisory powers, it is likewise appropriate to enhance its respective committees of inquiry, giving them the necessary means to carry out their tasks of fully examining alleged contraventions of EU law or maladministration. The regulation proposed here concerns the exercise of Parliament’s right of inquiry, establishing a set of rules intended to help improve the functioning and effectiveness of future committees of inquiry.
