"Mr President, the economic and trade partnership with China is of paramount importance. However, relations need to be balanced so that both sides can benefit fully. This is why I endorse the emphasis placed by the report on increasing reciprocity as a main solution to resolving the economic imbalances. I also feel that we need to provide even greater support to European companies so that they can enjoy fair access to the Chinese market. I should point out that Romania is focusing particular attention on stepping up economic cooperation with China, particularly in areas such as cross-border infrastructure, energy, agriculture or tourism.
In 2011, bilateral trade amounted to a total value of USD 4.2 billion, while the volume of Romanian exports to China rose by 36% compared to 2010, which was a higher growth rate than the import rate."@en1
