"I voted in favour of this resolution on a strategy for strengthening the rights of vulnerable consumers because the diversity of vulnerable situations, both when consumers are placed under statutory protection and when they are in a specific situation of sectoral or temporary vulnerability, hinders a uniform approach and the adoption of a comprehensive legislative instrument. The existing legislation and policies in place therefore address the problem of vulnerability on a case-by-case basis. European legislation must address the problem of vulnerability among consumers as a horizontal task, taking into account consumers’ various needs, abilities and circumstances. The rapporteur has addressed specifically the following sectors: the financial sector, food, transport, Internet, liberalised markets and access to justice. Attention is also drawn to the vulnerability of senior consumers, in particular, in the context of the digitisation of services, and because of the added cost that the management of such services poses for brick-and-mortar offices and stores, which means, in many cases, that they pay more for the same products."@en1
