"Although supplying appropriate information to consumers is necessary to guarantee their protection, this is not enough in some cases, especially for vulnerable consumers. This report therefore calls on the Commission to consider this, developing protection tools for the most vulnerable categories that go beyond mere information. By adopting the principle that each consumer may, during their lifetime, become a vulnerable consumer, the proposal avoids supplying too rigid a definition of vulnerability. There is also a need for action in the online sector, identified in the motion amongst the at-risk areas, in which the ineffectiveness of age verification systems exposes underage consumers to misleading adverts, and in which social networks allow sellers to promote their own products through targeted advertising, suggesting brands of interest within the social network, taking advantage of social pressure. Since I am sure the guidelines set out in the motion help identify an effective strategy for the protection of consumers, in particular, those who are vulnerable, I voted in favour of this report."@en1
