"Today, during the plenary session in Strasbourg, we voted on the report by Mr de Jong. This own-initiative report states that in order to guarantee a coherent and high-quality European strategy on criminal law, the three institutions should agree on principles and working methods.
Attention is focused on the importance of mutual recognition, harmonisation of protection standards and the principle of the presumption of innocence. The main areas of criminal law will be the responsibility of the Member States, whilst a ‘coordinating authority’ should be appointed within the European Commission."@en1
