"With the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, a basis has been created for developing criminal legislation and integrating it into EU law. As this is a very sensitive area, so as to ensure the quality and consistency of the EU’s approach to criminal law, it is crucial that the EU institutions improve their respective internal structures and agree amongst themselves on the working principles and methods. I voted for this report because I believe the measures advocated – particularly, the call for an interinstitutional agreement to facilitate cooperation on criminal matters between the Commission, the Council and Parliament – could contribute to consolidating trust between the Member States’ legal systems and developing a common EU legal culture in the fight against crime."@en1
