"I voted for the report on the issue of criminal law at EU level. With the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon, criminal law has become an EU competence. Unfortunately, Parliament is not taking on a coordination role and is not competent to tackle all the legislative proposals that include criminal law provisions, since these must be transposed into national law. I take a positive view of the principles and parameters set out in this report to be taken into account when drafting criminal law: the creation of mechanisms intended to facilitate interinstitutional cooperation, the maximum possible respect for the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and other international human rights instruments, and funding for solidarity campaigns relating to human rights."@en1
