"We live in a very complex world with diverse threats of various types, such as terrorism, serious international crime, mafias, cybercrime, economic crime, money laundering and corruption, as well as natural disasters and failures of existing infrastructure. Although very different, all these threats jeopardise the security of the European public and, for this very reason, the institutions should have a clear strategy to ensure that the EU remains an area of freedom, security and justice, but also of security. As the report says, the Charter of Fundamental Rights should be the basis of a robust internal security strategy, in line with the principles enshrined in the Treaty, the rule of law and respect for fundamental rights."@en1
