The European Parliament is a fully-fledged institutional actor in the field of security policies and it is therefore necessary to ensure its participation in determining the features and priorities of the internal security strategy (ISS) and in evaluating this instrument. The objectives of the ISS are not exhaustive, they should be better defined, and I therefore welcome the proposals on strengthening EU security policy contained in the report. An assessment of the European policy cycle should be undertaken to coordinate actions at national and European level to combat organised crime, as well as an analysis of the threats to be addressed. A parliamentary review of the Stockholm Programme needs to be undertaken and close cooperation with third countries on security issues needs to be guaranteed."@en1
