I reject any possible mission under the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) in Somalia or in the region. The Council and the Commission should review their political strategy on Somalia and put an end to the EU-NAVFOR Atalanta operation, as it can be considered a failure in view of more and more attacks and acts of violence. The Commission and the Council should adopt a joint vision with regard to the situation in Somalia and, most importantly, they should focus on the need to tackle the humanitarian situation on the ground and eradicate the real causes of the disaster that is resulting in the suffering of millions of Somalis, such as extreme poverty, illegal fishing and overfishing in Somali waters."@en1
