"Many European citizens travelling abroad on holiday nervously switch off their mobile phones even before leaving their home country. They are worried that they might – even accidentally – activate a roaming call which would at best use up all of their prepaid credit and at worst push up their fixed tariff to dizzying heights. I therefore welcome the fact that agreement has been reached on a further gradual reduction in roaming prices up to 2014. Although the resulting price limits will be reduced by tens of per cent, it is still only a partial success. Our aim must be a single European market in relation to prices for calls and the transmission of data, with no difference between domestic and roaming tariffs. This is a symbol of how far we still are from the declared aim of a single market free of artificial barriers."@en1
