lpv:translated text	"The United Nations has declared the period 2010-2020 the Decade on Biodiversity. Biodiversity is essential to the existence of human life and the well-being of societies, both directly and indirectly through the ecosystem services it provides. Climate change, biodiversity loss, threats from invasive species and overexploitation of natural resources are transnational and transregional challenges that affect all EU citizens, whether they live in urban or rural areas. For these reasons, urgent action needs to be taken at every level of government – local, regional and national – in order to mitigate these effects. This vote in favour serves to show the urgent need for action and the need to give greater priority to this issue, in order to meet the European Union’s 2020 headline target for biodiversity and global biodiversity commitments. In fact, the preservation of biodiversity is a collective challenge which should be addressed with the commitment and involvement of all stakeholders."@en1
