It is obvious that steps should be taken and instruments introduced to help protect the natural environment, which constitutes our common good – the common good not just of EU citizens, but of all the world’s citizens. A tax on carbon dioxide emissions may be one such instrument. However, from the point of view of Poland, a tax on emissions from burning coal could have dramatic consequences. In particular, it could bring about an enormous hike in the price of coal and this could result in many Polish households finding themselves in even more difficult circumstances."@en1
