I was not convinced however that the proposal to increase taxation levels on diesel was sufficiently thought through especially as regards its impact on peripheral regions such as Ireland which has no direct landlinks to mainland Europe. I would urge the Commission to look again at this and at possible countervailing measures to ensure that the necessary action to tackle climate change do not disproportionately disadvantage peripheral areas like Ireland whose prosperity to a large extent depends on exports."@en1
