I supported the resolution on a proposal for a regulation amending Council Regulation (EC) No 1083/2006 as regards certain provisions relating to risk-sharing instruments for Member States experiencing or threatened with serious difficulties with respect to their financial stability. The regulation applies to those European Union states in receipt of funding from international lenders. It provides Member States the possibility of obtaining additional funds for Structural Funds and Cohesion Fund projects, which they can no longer attract as a result of the economic downturn and the freeze in the banking sector. I took an active part in the drafting of this regulation. In the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) (PPE), I was responsible for drafting our opinion on this regulation, which was submitted to the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, of which I am a member. Working with other political groups, I was able to ensure that all the amendments I submitted in Committee were passed."@en1
