"I am fully supportive of this excellent report, which outlines the Parliament’s response to the Council’s annual human rights report 2010. The concrete recommendations made by the report look at improving the coherence and effectiveness of human rights policy. The emphasis placed by the report on more effective human rights dialogues, support for the International Criminal Court, better election support and stronger human rights and democracy clauses in trade agreements is particularly important. The EU must be effective and influential in issues such as combating torture and eradicating the use of the death penalty, and I believe that this report, which calls for a new EU Special Representative on Human Rights, will increase the EU’s influence in the UN Human Rights Council and at the International Criminal Court."@en1
