"European hypocrisy regarding the right to life of embryos must not continue. The time has come to face and debate the issue without any prior censorship.
During this morning’s plenary session, we once again discussed human rights worldwide. I asked for an amendment to be added to the report presented by the British MEP Mr Howitt, to include the right to maternity among women’s rights, underlining in my speech in the Chamber that, in the future, it would also be desirable if specific attention were also paid to the rights of the unborn child.
An unborn child is a human being and deserves every protection from institutions and social protection networks. Whatever the technique used, termination of pregnancy is both a trauma for the woman and a choice that cannot be reversed. My position is clear: we should ask for official recognition of the right to life from the very first days after conception."@en1
