"Mr President, as many of my fellow Members have spoken about Azerbaijan, I shall welcome the agreement reached with Armenia. I believe that this is an economically important area and that it is wise to strengthen ties between the European Union and all the countries of the South Caucasus.
I would also like to argue for a peaceful and lasting solution in Nagorno-Karabakh. Things are not as simple as they have been described here, with terms such as ‘occupied territories’ being used. You know that on the other side, there is also a regime that is becoming increasingly militarised. I therefore believe that we need to have confidence, firstly, in the Minsk Group, and secondly, in France, which is a longstanding partner in this region. I am keen to emphasise the central role played by France, both as a longstanding partner and as a member of the European Union, in this group’s work and the absolute necessity to preserve its rightful place in future negotiations."@en1
