"I supported the Taylor report on air passengers’ rights. I believe it is of paramount importance that EU passengers are better aware of their rights when faced with flight cancellations, long delays or sudden announcements of airline bankruptcy. EU regulations must be equally and uniformly enforced across Europe, with clear rules which do not place a disproportionate burden on airlines in the event of or exceptional circumstances, while offering adequate, transparent and consistent guarantees for the protection of passengers’ rights. All airlines operating in the EU must inform passengers of their rights and respect the rules in good faith. We cannot continue with the present chaotic situation in respect of enforcement, where levels of protection vary widely depending on the Member State of departure and the operating company involved. Passengers are also affected by the proliferation of unfair terms when purchasing their tickets and by air carrier contracts: the Commission, when reviewing the current legislation, must provide appropriate solutions to these concerns."@en1
