In 2008, the crisis hit, and now, four years down the road, the situation in many Member States is even worse: we have more people who are poor, hungry or deprived. The European Union must remain socially minded. What this means is that we have to introduce measures which revive the economy while, at the same time, of course, not forgetting the people in need. I have to say that in my own country, Slovenia, the situation is so bad in some areas that charities have already stopped distributing food because it has run out. For that reason, such measures by the European Union are, of course, very welcome. Obviously, such assistance should, first and foremost, be timely, effective and fast."@en1
