"Madam President, on 29 February, as part of a raid, two Palestinian television stations were closed down. The equipment was confiscated and, according to the Israeli Ministry of Communications, warnings had been repeatedly issued to these broadcasting companies for supposedly broadcasting without a licence on frequencies that interfered with Ben-Gurion Airport.
For their part, the Palestinians claimed that these warnings had not been issued and that all of these accusations were to be rejected. The High Representative must therefore call on the two sides to clear up these points of dispute, so that the EU can act as an impartial mediator in this case. A joint Israeli-Palestinian Commission for Technology could also help establish clarity here.
As we continue to strive towards a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, it is important to uphold the fundamental freedom of the press and freedom of expression for the whole region and for all groups, even if one of our colleagues from the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) unfortunately sees this as purely a communications problem and has refused to accept a blue-card question on this issue."@en1
